Here are the instructions for using the butterfly enclosure:

1. Be cautious when opening the large, tall monarch butterfly tents. After removing the elastic strap from around the circle, the cube cage can pop open unexpectedly, so ensure you have plenty of space and no breakable objects nearby.

2. After opening the net cage, the PVC side will be creased from folding. To remove the creases, you can blow-dry the PVC with a hair dryer for about 5 minutes or place the PVC toward warm sunlight to relax the wrinkles.

3. Always close the cage door so the zippers meet at the top center. If a caterpillar is somewhere on the zipper, this will allow you to zip down the other side to open.

4. Clean the mesh cage after a disease outbreak or at the end of the season by soaking it in a 5% bleach solution (19 parts water to 1 part bleach) for about 20 minutes. The cage can be soaked in a tub or laundry tub.

5. Rinse your butterfly garden with water and then let it air-dry. Hang it on a clothesline or place a rock on the floor to prevent it from blowing away.

6. When folding the cage for storage, place your hands on opposite upper corners of the cage and press one corner in to fold the cage flat.

7. Store the cage flat in a closet, under a bed, behind a couch, or any other convenient location.

The mesh on all six sides of the butterfly habitat promotes healthy air flow for monarch butterflies, ladybugs, praying mantises, and even some small animals. The fine mesh will keep tiny ants, wasps, and other predator insects out.

The new clear mesh materials of the butterfly enclosure make it easy to observe the caterpillars as they change into chrysalides and then emerge as beautiful Monarch, Painted Lady, or Black Swallowtail Butterflies. This is a great learning experience for students and families.
